I find that by a letter dated 13th. April,
1901, from the Postmaster-General, the British Post Offices
in China were prohibited from accepting either Gold coins or
bullion for transmission to England. The result is that the
Gold sent from China goes to Paris or Berlin instead of London.
Except there is some very strong reason against the practice
I submit that this result is not desirable. Our Post Office
could offer the facilities offered by the French and German
Post Offices with perfect safety.
I have the honour to be,
sir,
Your most obedient
Humble servant,
Hevery, Alaba
Governor, ExC..
